The painting by the contemporary Tuscan artist Mauro Capitani is the joy of motherhood lived in its full, where the fruit of the mother’s womb plays in an abundance of colorful fruit.
In the background stands a stylized interpretation of "Madonna del Parto", originally by Piero della Francesca. The advanced stage of pregnancy is emphasized by the attitude of the Madonna holding her left side, while her other hand caresses her belly protectively. The fresco (1455-60) was executed by the Master to honor the Madonna and since then has always been a symbol for every woman in labor, signifying a blessed birth.
This masterpiece is one of the major achievements of the Italian Renaissance and it recalls the cult of fertility and augurs protection of mother and infant.
